About Our Practice

Harrington Psychological Services was founded on the belief that effective mental health care requires both clinical expertise and genuine human connection.

At Harrington Psychological Services, we believe that clients are the experts of their experiences and that it is our job to form a trusting relationship with them, facilitate psychological exploration, and promote cognitive, emotional and behavioural change. In doing so, we strive to improve psychological well-being and improve the quality of life of our clients.

Our practice was founded on the principle that everyone deserves compassionate, evidence-based mental health care delivered in a warm, respectful environment. Over the years, we've had the privilege of supporting hundreds of individuals and families through life's challenges and transitions.

We're proud to be part of the Windsor community—not a large corporate chain, but a small, dedicated practice where you'll receive personalized attention from experienced professionals who care about your well-being.

Our Therapeutic Approach

Evidence-Based Practice

Our interventions are grounded in current psychological research and proven therapeutic methods. We draw from cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, and other modalities with strong empirical support.

Individualized Treatment

Research provides the foundation, but you provide the direction. We adapt evidence-based approaches to fit your unique needs, preferences, cultural background, and personal goals rather than applying rigid protocols.

Collaborative Care

Therapy works best when it's a partnership. We regularly check in about what's helpful, adjust our approach based on your feedback, and ensure you feel actively involved in all decisions about your treatment.

Holistic Perspective

We consider the whole person—your relationships, environment, physical health, cultural identity, and life circumstances—because psychological well-being doesn't exist in isolation from the rest of your life.

Client-centered therapeutic approach - collaborative and respectful care

Client-Centered Care

At the heart of our practice is a deep respect for each person's autonomy, dignity, and inherent capacity for growth and healing.

We recognize that you know yourself better than anyone else ever could. Our role isn't to tell you how to live your life or impose our values on your decisions. Instead, we help you clarify your own values, understand patterns that may be holding you back, and develop skills to move toward the life you want.

This means we listen more than we talk, ask more than we advise, and continually adjust our approach based on what resonates with you. Therapy should feel collaborative, not prescriptive.

We're also committed to cultural humility—recognizing that our own perspectives are shaped by our experiences and that we have much to learn from the diverse individuals we're privileged to work with.

What to Expect in Therapy

1

Initial Consultation

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We'll discuss what brought you to therapy, your current concerns, relevant background, and what you hope to achieve. We'll also review confidentiality, answer your questions about the therapeutic process, and determine together whether our practice is a good fit for your needs.

2

Developing Your Treatment Plan

In the early sessions, we'll work together to create a clear picture of your goals and develop a collaborative treatment plan. This isn't a one-way process—your input is essential. We'll identify specific areas you want to address and discuss approaches that align with your preferences and values.

3

Active Therapeutic Work

Sessions typically occur weekly or biweekly, depending on your needs and schedule. Each session is a collaborative space for exploration, skill-building, processing difficult experiences, and working toward your goals. Between sessions, you may practice new skills or reflect on insights gained during our work together.

4

Progress and Adjustment

Therapy is not a linear process. We'll regularly check in about what's working, what feels challenging, and whether adjustments to our approach might be helpful. As you progress toward your goals or as new concerns emerge, we'll adapt our work to ensure it remains relevant and effective.

5

Transition and Closure

When you feel ready to conclude therapy, we'll work together to ensure a thoughtful transition. We'll review your progress, consolidate the insights and skills you've gained, and discuss strategies for maintaining your well-being going forward.

Our Commitment to You

When you choose to work with us, you can expect professionalism, respect, and genuine care. We're committed to:

  • Maintaining the highest standards of ethical practice and confidentiality
  • Staying current with research and continuing our professional development
  • Creating an inclusive, affirming environment for people of all backgrounds
  • Responding to your needs with flexibility, compassion, and clinical expertise
  • Being honest about what we can and cannot help with, and connecting you with other resources when appropriate
